home. It is couponing and it can be a way to shave some dollars off your weekly

I stop right now though and pause to go back and
read the question that I began this article with. The latest craze? Really? I
cannot help but laugh because using coupons is nothing new to me. In fact I
remember my mother clipping coupons to help our family save a few dollars back
when I was a little girl. That was not yesterday! You may be able to relate.
Couponing though has gone through a transition and has reemerged as a popular
trend that is in fashion. Due to its popularity the access to coupons has
increased as has the potential for them to save you money- and that is what
matters after all!
They say that everything old becomes new again. The
use of coupons fits that description perfectly. So what do you need to know
about couponing? Let’s look at a few basic principles of the old-turned-new
concept of couponing:
Organization is Essential
If you are an organized
person then organizing your coupons should not be difficult for you at all. If
you are not then… well… time to exercise your organization muscles! Before you go
shopping, make a list of the items you want to buy. Make note on your list of
which items you have a coupon for. Check store flyers before you leave your
home. If you have a coupon for an item that you need to buy and it is also on
sale then that equals extra savings! Use coupons for sale items whenever
possible!
It helps to organize your coupons in such a way that
they are always handy when you need them and also to make sure that they get
used before their expiry dates are up. There are many stores that sell very
basic coupon organizers. Look for one that is appropriate for your needs.
Organize them in a manner that is most suitable for you. For example you might want to organize them according
to their categories, such as food coupons, pet coupons, household item coupons,
personal care coupons and so on.
Keep your coupon organizer close at hand when you go
to the mall. In the glove compartment in your car is a good spot as is your
handbag or your shopping bag.

Coupons
Finding coupons might take some work at first but
once you get the hang of it you will find them easier and easier to locate. If
you subscribe to the local paper then you should find coupons in there. For
example, the Saturday or Sunday edition of many papers features a selection of
coupons. Some companies send coupons through the mail to consumers while others
go door-to-door and deliver them. On occasion coupons will be handed out in stores
and some coupons are attached to specific products.
There are also websites that you can subscribe to
that will make coupons available to you. In fact they are readily
available online. Check the website of a variety of stores as well as the
websites of companies that manufacture many of your favorite products. There
are often contests that you can enter on the websites as well. Please note that
not all stores accept coupons that are printed off of the Internet. When in
doubt check with the customer service desk at any given store to find out what
their policy is regarding the use of coupons.
Another place to look is the retailers themselves.
Check the entrance of any given store to see if there are any coupons that are
free to anyone and/or if there are coupons that are included in the sales
flyers.

While most sales run for a week (and sometimes two),
coupons can be effective for anywhere from a week to a number of months. Make
note of when the expiry dates are. Take note as well that some coupons are only
for specific stores.
